The Viceroyalty of Colón. Light and Sword

Art by: Antonio Hernández Palacios

Written by: Antonio Hernández Palacios

"Relatos del nuevo mundo" was a collection on the discovery of the New World, a hybrid between comic strips and historical essays. It comprised 25 volumes, each combining 46 pages of comic strips with 26 pages of text in the form of a historical essay. Published to mark the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America, this series of comic books were written or illustrated by Spanish, Latin American or European authors and they focused on a specific historical figure, theme or episode.

The Viceroyalty of Colón. Light and Sword,  was the third volume of the series. It completes the picture of Columbus and reflects his days of glory and also his bitter moments, the intrigues that led him to return as a prisoner from the New World he had discovered.

But beyond the story of one man, these pages also tell the story of the Spaniards who remained there, their often turbulent relations with the indigenous peoples and the determination that led them to found cities. In short, to remain in the New World.
