The Slaughterhouse and other stories

Art by: Enrique Breccia

Written by: Enrique Breccia and others

One of the most brilliant ideas from Fierro's early days was the series of adaptations of works of Argentine literature. Some of these stories, which are now undisputed classics of Argentine comics, were drawn and inked by Enrique Breccia: El Matadero by Esteban Echeverría; Mustafá by Enrique Discépolo; and Los dueños de la tierra by David Viñas.

Doedytores started publishing these stories in Argentina together with other short stories by Breccia. They did three editions and each time more material was added. The first (2007) was titled Historias cortas; the second (2008) was titled El Matadero y otras historias; the third edition (2010) was expanded to include three previously absent works: La Guerra del Desierto (The Desert War), which is considered an important piece of South American comic art that questions the official narrative about the conquest of indigenous territories, and two other color stories written by Juan Sasturain and published by Ikusager in Spain in 1989 and 1990.
