"Relatos del nuevo mundo" was a collection on the discovery of the New World, a hybrid between comic strips and historical essays. It comprised 25 volumes, each combining 46 pages of comic strips with 26 pages of text in the form of a historical essay. Published to mark the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America, this series of comic books were written or illustrated by Spanish, Latin American or European authors and they focused on a specific historical figure, theme or episode.
The 11th volume of the series, The Conquest of New Spain. Gold and Blood, is set at the heart of Moctezuma’s empire, the Aztec emperor who believed that the intrepid Hernán Cortés was an emissary of the god Quetzalcóatl who had come to overthrow him. Thus, amidst magic, fierce military battles, loyalties and betrayals, this captivating story of the conquest of Mexico unfolds—one of the defining moments of the Spanish presence in the New World.
