Spartacus (a.k.a The Return)

Art by: Domingo Mandrafina & Enrique Breccia

Written by: Ricardo Ferrari

Published in Argentina in Skorpio magazine (1990) as La Vuelta and as Espartaco in Spanish magazine Cimoc (1991), it is a comic series divided into six episodes of 8 pages.

Espartaco is a science fiction comic book, a dystopia in which a scientist from the future buys Spartacus as a child in the mines of the Roman world. Taken from his own time and educated by the scientist, we witness the transformation of Spartacus into a teenager, first working in a brothel, and then as a young adult forced to serve as a gladiator in a TV show on the Imperial Video Network Studios, from which no one has ever escaped.

Condemned to be unable able to buy food, he robs shops to get food and weapons, calling for a revolt against a totalitarian state, set in a post- apocalyptic future that offers great freedom to scriptwriters and artists to give free rein to their imagination.
