In 1970, Spanish illustrator Antonio Hernández Palacios made his debut with his western Manos Kelly in the Spanish comic magazine Trinca.
Manos Kelly is a western starring a lone hero from nowhere with a mysterious past, born to a Spanish mother and an Irishman father, and survivor of the battle of the Alamo, where as a child he had his hands burned (the hands that now serve as his nickname). Set across the vast prairies, deserts, and frontiers of 19th-century America, the series combines historical accuracy with poetic narration and highly detailed artwork.
Through four albums and a short story, Manos Kelly’s journey evokes themes of identity, survival, and the complexities of human nature, immersing readers in both the harsh landscapes and the historical tumult of the American West.
Key Points:
Exceptional drawing and inking by master Palacios
Dynamic, expressive vignettes reflecting deep respect for Indian nations and their customs
Authentic 19th-century landscapes and historical events immerse readers in a vivid adventure
