Art by: Antonio Hernández Palacios

"Relatos del nuevo mundo" was a collection on the discovery of the New World, a hybrid between comic strips and historical essays. It comprised 25 volumes, each combining 46 pages of comic strips with 26 pages of text in the form of a historical essay. Published to mark the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America, this series of comic books were written or illustrated by Spanish, Latin American or European authors and they focused on a specific historical figure, theme or episode.

Columbus first voyage. A distant light, by A.H. Palacios,  was the first title of the series. It tells the fascinating story of Christopher Columbus’s first voyage,  in which three small ships with a crew of a hundred men reached the shore of the New World. Through captivating illustrations and an engaging narrative, the book recounts Columbus’s challenges and discoveries as he sought new routes to the west. The subtitle refers to the light that Columbus claimed to have seen on the night before he sighted land.
