In the summer of 1148, Ramon Berenguer IV, Count of Barcelona and Prince of Aragon, began the assault on the city of Turtuxa, a stronghold of the Muslim taifa. The siege to which the city was subjected lasted until the winter, with the Saracens surrendering by capitulation on the last day of December. 


  Far from completing his reconquest, the Count of Barcelona left Tortosa for Lérida and Fraga, at which point a Muslim army tried to take it again, knowing that the city had few defenses. The people of Tortosa, unable to cope with such an offensive, decided to put the entire population to the sword and leave no soul alive against the invaders. But the women of Tortosa, aware of the intentions of the council of men, are unwilling to accept this outcome...
