Art by: Jorge Esteban Urabayen
Script by: El Torres
Captain Alonso de Contreras, a soldier, sailor and adventurer, has to stay in Madrid for a while… and he does so at the home of one of the most famous poets and writers of all time: the ‘Phoenix of the Minds’, Lope de Vega.
The friendship blossoms amidst tales of Contreras’s adventures and their wanderings through the streets of what we now know as Madrid’s Barrio de las Letras. A neighbourhood populated by actors, actresses, poets and noblemen, including the immortal Quevedo, Góngora and Cervantes.
This story, based in part on the first volume of *Discurso de mi vida* (Discourse on My Life), a book written by Alonso de Contreras himself, captures the essence of an incomparable era, bringing together the grandeur of theatre, war and the passion that shaped the lives of its protagonists.
