Manuel Pitarch García was twenty-one years old when the Spanish Civil War broke out; without a moment’s hesitation, he decided to enlist as a volunteer on the Republican side. After spending several months in Madrid, he was posted to Guadalajara, where he joined the 49th Mixed Brigade of the People’s Army.

  In this Graphic Novel, Manuel tells his two sons about his war stories, the places he visited, the battles he witnessed, and, of course, a handful of anecdotes that shed light on a lesser-known part of the conflict. Jordi and Alain Pitarch recount their grandfather's experience, paying a tribute to his memory and to all who endured the atrocities of war. They aim to ensure that this dark chapter in Spain's history is never forgotten and hopefully, never repeated.
